What would it be like to work alongside industry-leading orthopedic professionals at one of the largest orthopaedic companies in the world? How would it feel to put your stamp on projects that make a difference in the care of patients?
DePuy Orthopaedics offers two compensated opportunities for undergraduate and professional students to study and work at our company’s headquarters in Warsaw, Indiana.
Becky F., a former co-op student and now Product Development Engineer in DePuy’s Hip R&D Department, understands first-hand how the program can work. Becky holds a Bachelor’s of Science degree from Marquette University. As a co-op student, she worked in the Customs Department and, after graduating in May 2006, began employment with DePuy Orthopaedics, Inc. Since then, she’s helped to develop the instrumentation system that will accompany a new hip stem the company is introducing this year.
“I went to school with quite a few others who did not co-op, and I think it definitely gave me a step up and an idea of what to expect when I started working,” Becky says.
Since the inception of the program in the late 1980’s, hundreds of Co-Ops and Interns have worked at DePuy Orthopaedics, alongside other students, handling real projects important to the company’s orthopaedics business. Students have come from as close as Warsaw, Indiana and as far away as the Pacific coast and work on real-life projects reporting to a manager who serves in a mentor capacity. The following departments typically have Co-Ops/Interns: Manufacturing, Product Development, Research, Quality, Clinical/Regulatory, Marketing and Finance.
Co-Op Rotational Program A Co-Op student is an undergraduate student who participates in at least three 6-month full-time rotations within various departments. Students rotate between a semester at their educational institution and a semester at DePuy Orthopaedics. Depending on the college/university, students may receive credit for their work experience.
Internship Program An Intern is a professional/graduate student who works at DePuy Orthopaedics for one term before returning to school.
